No ride - Again

Sorry guys no ride again for this month.
There's Awal Muharram and Christmas.
So you get the drift. :P

Apologies.

New look!

I guess I have that little bit of time to actually give a new simple look to the blog.
I hope you guys like it.

By the way, follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/putrajayamasser
And watch out this space soon. We're announcing two cool rides this month.
Make time on the 18th and 30th.

We missed you guys last Friday last month!
Kami dari Putrajaya Critical Mass
ingin mengambil kesempatan ini untuk mengucapkan,

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri
&

Semoga sambutan Aidilfitri sekalian diberkati Allah SWT.

Tidak lupa juga kepada pengayuh-pengayuh basikal yang bukan beragama Islam,
ampun dan maaf serta selamat bercuti.

"Pak Enol berbasikal ke pekan,
Berjumpa Angah cheese cake dipinta,
Sepuluh jari kami hulurkan,
Ampun dan maaf juga dipinta.

Abang Man ke Penang hendak berwheelie,
Berjumpa Cik Aini berwikang sakan,
Salam seri Salam Aidilfitri,
Seluruh PCM kami ucapkan.

Naik kereta nak cepat-cepat,
Apa kelas naik basikal,
Pandu cermat jiwa selamat,
Lagi best naik basikal."

Majulah kita untuk basikal kita sendiri.
1Malaysia, 26juta basikal.
Rakyat didahulukan, basikal diutamakan.

Sekian, terima kasih.

Salam sayang,
Putrajaya Critical Mass

Slowing that cadence...

Sigh. So sorry guys. Most of us are busy. And frankly it's that season where your bikes need to be repaired (or change?). Me personally hasn't been cycling for the last two months. Now that bike at home felt as though she's only part of the home deco. :P

But fret not the ride still on this month!

26th June 2009.

Same time. Same place.

I will announce it sometime this weekend.

But you know what?

Putrajaya Critical Mass alongside Tukang Basikal Fook Sang (TBFS) are giving out a cool freebie to the first 50 guys who come that night. Wait till I announced this out.

Thanks to Yong from TBFS, one of the frequent night riders in PCM he got the goodwill to give us some freebies!

Tak nak datang lagi dah? Datang kalu, kami kasi hadiah! :D

The year that was...

Da birthday vid, njoy

Hi all. Not much of a review but a total 100% fun. Not many people came but definitely much happier crowd than usual.

I do crappy job in giving speeches. Always ended up talking nonsense.

Anyway, I would like to take this opportunity to say a couple of gazillion gratitudes to some and everyone.

Thank you to Allah SWT for the opportunity that we could have this wonderful ride every month. Although there were hiccups but without You this ride could have been nothing than just a dream.

To the iron men who have helped Putrajaya Critical Mass all this time.
To Abang Man, my personal gratitude to you on being the most patient, most understanding, most contributing and most hardworking cycling acquiantance and a great friend.
Man CIOCC said..."I'm deeply touched...thank you all for the support".

To Flat, Apai, the great gang of the Republic of Puchong, Putrajaya Easy Riders, Shahrin Anthem, Kash, Aini, Angah, Toyol, Rudy, my brother Taufiq, Heero, Amir Faezal and Azizan Fixie.

Without all your help, beliefs and your support, I think I would give up initiating this wonderful event months ago.

To everyone, EVERYONE, who made it to the mass, once, twice, every month; from the bottom of my heart, a million thanks. Without your presence and support in the mass I personally think PCM would cease to exist by the third month.

Also I would like to apologise to everyone if anything i said, commented, did etc. might hurt anyone's feelings.

Kudos to Putrajaya Easy Riders for helping us out on the route and marshalling the mass. I thought you guys didn't make it. Rupanya semua dah standby kat junctions. Great job and very organised!

Thank you to those who brought food and drinks that night. Personal thanks to Angah who made the cakes.

Thanks again to everyone who made it that night. You guys rock and you guys are wonder-awesome!

PS: Kalau saya dah merepek masa briefing, maafkanlah saya... Saya insan yang lemah, tidak pandai berbahasa inggeris dan tidak mempunyai MBA. :P

Dari Putrajaya ke Gaza

Cantik bukan? Macam setan!
Hehe.
No, that's not me.

PCM Post Ride - TONIGHT! TONIGHT! TONIGHT!

Very, very relaxed cycling session. No briefing, no protocols. As easy as "Ok dah? Jom la!"

This session to achieve two matters.
1. To bank in the collection we made for NSTP Fund for Gaza last PCM.
2. To recce new route.

Venue: Mamak Double Trouble.
Date: Tonight! Tonight!
Meeting time: 9.30pm
Roll off: Whenever we feel like it. No hurry, no rush.

Me and Apai will be there for sure. Anyone who doesn't have any other cycling activity tonight are very, very much invited. Definitely a lepak, borak2, lawak2 ride. Not a race/cadence-monitoring/heart-rate keeping session.

Mamak session after ride!
Selamba?

Tee off!

Some requested the design to make t-shirts. I did the design for both boys and girls. :D
Download the files here.

This is one of our project this year. Was an idea by a good friend, Kash. Still in progress.
Let us know what you guys think. Anyone wanna print this? :D

Shall we ride for Palestine this month?

Shall we?
We all come, up-to-you donations, ride, lepak and go home.
All donations will go into NSTP Fund for Gaza.
Shall we?

Opinions please. :)

P/S: Starting this month, we will gather in front of Palace of Justice for meeting point (it's where Cyclefest and LTDL was held recently.) Plenty of parking space around the area. Pasar malam for those who wants to have a quick munch. And the letter to the authority is in progress.

I'm in Hatyai and too lazy to do the poster... :P

Check them out. :)

Of being a great soul

I have always been amazed by the progress of beginners. Especially when one started with Putrajaya Critical Mass. I've always been awed on cyclists who would take cycling as easy as cycling should be. Not just in terms of being a performance rider but also to enjoy the sweet time of cycling. That's one of the great joy being with Putrajaya Critical Mass. Being only ten months old, I personally feel most of us have accomplished a lot, together taking baby steps with PCM.

But, last ride was somehow surprised me in a very curious way.

The police has "interfered" in our beloved mass ride. No violence. Only a minor interrogations to one of our favourite massers. He couldn't ride that day as he was injured from a recent hash. But he voluntarily escorted till the last guy in the mass. Nothing serious happened between the police and the escort. Thank God for that. Maybe it is not a big deal but I think one should not close one eye and let be.

What disappoint me most is - the fact Putrajaya being a bicycle city, why there are still "vague" rules to cycle in Putrajaya?

Such like the dispute between the guards at Putrajaya Mosque and Putrajaya Easy Riders.

We've received a very supportive and constructive comment from one the fellow Putrajaya Easy Riders last night. One that moved me and somehow, I believe, many of us share the same idea and opinion.

"Daoh,
Don't worry about the policemen. The next time we ride, maybe they will give us VIP escort!
PCM has promoted Putrajaya to the world. The relevant authorities should salute us for dong a great job.

What matters next in our 27th February ride is to choose the least traffic route and a better starting point. My suggestion is the Palace of Justice where it is brightly lit and there is ample open parking beside the Palace of Justice building. We can write in to Perbadanan to inform them. We do not need their approval, because it is a public place. The Dataran at the Mosque would have been ideal, but there are too many cars there on a Friday Night.

We can start at the PoP and head towards the Mosque Dataran. From there we head out to join the main internal circular road in the middle of Putrajaya via the PM's Dept and head to Alamanda and then on our outer ring road towards Pinggiran Putra and PICC and then we head back to our starting point at PoP.

This distance is about the same as our normal route. I will keep on looking for a better route as we go on, which will be longer and more importantly safe for all riders.

Some might ask why start from a place where there is no drinking hole, i.e mamak shop?

Well, we can say that since we want to ride healthy, the idea of minum sampai pagi at the mamak shop is optional. Anyway, they can go to the mamak shop after ashort rest at the finishing point and then pack their bikes. In this way, at least we can see the big group before and after the ride. Dekat mamak shop tu, kita dok tersepit dekat other vehicles. Tak nampak the Critical Mass. Lagi pun lepas kayuh kita boleh berkenalan dengan yang lain lain, instead of rushing to the mamak shop."

So what do you guys think?
Should we write a letter of pemission to the police?
Should we ignore?
Should we give a try for a new meeting point?
Let us know. Putrajaya Critical Mass is ours.

Thank you for your time.

Dear all,
First of all, I would like to thank you for all your comments in this blog. I am very much confused and most of all sad to some critics that we've been getting. I do not like to be emotionally involved and prefer to be on a neutral side but I think it would be wrong if my friends and I are not taking a stand on what we believe - Putrajaya Critical Mass.

On behalf of good followers of PCM, I would like to make clear with certain issues.

I do not like others to perceive this ride as something violent-cause ride or an active-aggressive protest gathering. PCM is a friendly, non-biased, non-political, non-sponsored (trust me, we didn't ask but a lot has offered to sponsor us) and only for the cause of promoting cycling. No more, no less.

Critical Mass is to share. I hope in every other city especially in Malaysia will have one in the near future. When I started this PCM, it was all for one thing - to promote cycling among friends and to the community in Klang Valley. Critical mass in other cities fight/advocates/protests/celebrates many different causes and values. Critical Mass in Putrajaya is to promote cycling as a fun alternative and healthy lifestyle.

PCM has been attended by many different races, status, new beginners and pro riders. But all to attend in the believe of cycling is fun and healthy. Pure fun. Non-violence.

PCM is to educate and introduce cycling as an alternative and healthy lifestyle. I've seen someone who can only cycle 5km, now doing at least 30-40kms a week. Thanks to good friends of PCM, we always encourage new guys/girls to do more cycling. Now most of them are hardcore riders who cycle to work, hashing in jamborees, at least a frequent weekend warrior.

That is what we PCM called a progress. Might be nothing to others but a success to us. We don't fight for cycling rights because in Malaysia our cycling community is still small. We go to jamborees, hashes, races and tours but only a few of us cycle to work or even to nearest 7-11 kiosk. Tell me how can PCM start to a cause for cycling rights or any other radical ideas if most of us still drives? Understand we are a very small group no matter how big you think we are.

PCM is only 9 months old. We are still in our baby steps. We are learning and accepting new challenges. We take everything constructive seriously but we don't really tolerate on any stupidity and negativeness towards PCM. Something that is against our belief that cycling should be fun, safe and alternative at this moment is definitely ridiculous. Nothing radical. Nothing illogical to the community.

Let me remind you, I am not a leader like some of you (even some in the mass) might think. I am just an initiator. I started this. I created the blog. I did the flyers. I started this with my own beliefs. And slowly I educate my friends about Critical Mass. I asked, begged my friends to help me with this ride. I never pushed, forced any of my cycling friends to come. I was never a boss in any way possible to this ride. I never even asked to be called, labelled as "Captain" or "Boss" or any other superior-being in this ride.

But I would love to be merely called as a friend. Other than I mentioned above, I am no more than just an enthusiast like you guys. I love cycling. My bike is no bling. But it takes me to point A to point B. I am not a bike snob.

Dear all,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved, attended, rode, crashed, smiled, laughed, cam-whored, cussed, bitched, crashed (i think i was the only one!) etc.
Last year was a beginning (nevertheless a blast!) and we're still learning.

A new year is coming. I believe in continuing PCM in the years to come. My friends and I will take PCM to a new different height, more fun and excitements. PCM is for everyone and everyone to share. Your support, your energy, your time and your smiles are what we always appreciate and cherish.

From the bottom of my velo heart, thank you again. Happy new year.

Sudah la. Tak kira la nak naik beskal murah ke, mahal ke, main gitar ke. Kayuh je la. HAHA!

Intellectual musicians and more on PCM #9

The last few days, we had a few comments on our mass ride. I don't really like to comment even more when it's coming from the few "intellectual" musicians.

We love music btw. We go karaoke after our cycling ride. :P

So, whatever la.

The PCM Rolling Route!

Hi all,
Some of you guys who often ride with PCM, might know this route. This route is a favourite by the roadies for recovery sessions. We're riding this route again this week but we're invading the Putrajaya Mosque area this time. Let's show how much fun we're having, riding bikes in a mass. (Make sure we're in a MASS! :P)

So here's the route. For those who are not familiar, don't worry - it's an easy route. Some would be taken aback by the distance but 24.5km seriously an easy-peasy, done-deal if you ride in a group. Stop looking at your meter and cycle at your own pace. Don't worry about being slow, we have marshals/guides/regulars who will help each other in the ride.

The point is everyone needs to support each other and make sure everyone has a great time.

The route takes you to beautiful Putrajaya bridges, the Government Boulevard where we can have a few pics taken at the Palace of Justice, scenic views of the Putrajaya lake from a bridge and a Pasar Malam. Hehe.

There's a slight elevation at the highway but it's very much achievable. 7-year-olds and the roaring 50's have conquered this highway too many times. Just remember, for the first timers, use comfortable gearings and take your own pace. Do not try to follow others. We follow yours. Seriously. :D I will!

For more, check this out. This is a great site for you to map your ride. It says in the name. Duh.

Well, i guess that's about it. I hope there will be a lot of turnouts this time. Especially female riders. Pray hard it's not going to rain. Most importantly, please enjoy your ride. Wishing massers all over the world to have a great ride this Friday! :)

We're Facebooked!

Putrajaya Critical Mass got massed!

Check out the article on Putrajaya Critical Mass on this month issue of KLUE!
Yay!

(Got pic but we'll upload soon!)

Attention: August Critical Mass Change of Date

Dear all,
We apologise for the inconvenience. We have to change the date of Putrajaya Critical Mass that is supposed to be held on th 29 August to 22 August 2008.

Please note it is now on the 22 August 2008. It's one week earlier than planned. This change is due for some reasons mainly,

1. PCC Interstate 2008 will be held from 29 - 31 August 2008 (Some cyclists might not make it to the mass)
2. Malaysia International Fireworks Competition in Putrajaya on 12, 14, 20, 24 and 29 August 2008 (Massive traffic is expected)
3. Long weekend to balik kampung. :)

Please inform your friends and other cyclists who would like to join the mass this month. Watch this space for the announcement and flyer!

PS: Please vote on poll whether we would like to have a Critical Mass on the month of Ramadhan. Thanks guys!

Hi! You don't give a damn to come to Putrajaya?

Somebody commented on the previous post:

"Blogger ziq said...

hai guys, sorry nak comment pasal event ni. to me this is not a critical mass. Understand critical mass. The aim of it is for awareness. The ride u guys buat is just a normal nite ride. Critical mass is something different, brake all the rules etc, no helmet, no lights, just hav any kind of bikes and ride. U guys kene check this blog, http://massa-kritikal.blogspot.com/. BTW criticall mass kene organize in a big busy city which is kl. If putrajaya at night, who give a damn. Beside nak g putrajaya pun kene drive then ride. dah salah."

Hi Ziq,
I'm glad at least someone responded and think i'm doing a stupid job organising this critical mass every month. As a response to your comment, I would like to say I don't give a damn if you think what i'm trying to here is on the wrong concept of a Critical Mass. In fact I don't give a damn if you don't give a damn to come over to Putrajaya and have a night ride. :)

"Critical Mass bike rides take place monthly in cities around the world. They are free mass participatory events, with no leaders or fixed agendas. However, the broad aim is to celebrate cycling and sustainable transport, and to give cyclists safety in numbers."
- Critical Mass Wikia

It's true most Critical Masses are organised in the rights of one or more advocacies. Do you even know what advocacy means?

"Advocacy - an active support of an idea or cause etc.; especially the act of pleading or arguing for something."

But don't you forget Critical Mass is a cycling celebration. I organised this every month in the hope to attract people to cycle and have fun and what's important, to enjoy cycling. I don't have to start anarchy on the first two times of Putrajaya Critical Mass because i think most of us is not a commuter. Most of us still drives to work. But in the end of the day, when we come back home we would still think "I've should've go to work with my bike today..." or at least you know you farking love your bike that you go to bike blogs, watch bike stunts in youtubes, you bitch in bike forums and for the most of us we browse and embrace the coolness of bike parts in www.bicyclebuysell.com. Hehehe. So yeah, you can call me poyo for organising this event every month and you can bitch about me. But I love cycling and I would like anyone out there who are beginners or not to enjoy and celebrate cycling as much as I do.

Now do you go to work riding your bike? Do you even care about the RM2.70 per liter of your cool car, Ziq? If you do - good for you! I support you all the way. I'm trying hard to cycle to work everyday but so far I've managed on the average of 3 days for the last two weeks. I've sold my MTB to get a faster ride. I've travel 36km one way. That's 72km both ways if your math sucks like your english. [It's "break" not "brake"] I have to wake up 5.30 for subuh and straight away go to work. But i don't do it everyday. Yes I am poyo. But I'm doing it slowly.

This time around, me and my friends are organising the Critical Mass to the cause that it is more fun to ride your bike rather than driving. So you're saying "why do i have to drive all the way to Putrajaya to celebrate cycling against motorists?". Now if you want to go to KL and DRIVE all the way because you want to support Critical Mass KL, hey, go knock yourself out. :D Hell you're even more stupid than your grammar.

Yes, we support Critical Mass KL, in fact some riders in the Putrajaya Critical Mass went to the first few of their rides. Until they stopped doing it anymore. We support and even I acknowledged. If they're doing it again I would go. I even emailed them once asking when are they gonna do it again but sadly no reply. So I do it for myself and other people like me to do in Putrajaya. What do you care? You don't even give a damn. :)

Excuse me for being such an asshole, but, I think a Critical Mass does not BREAK any rule. Massers who are not discipline in the Mass break the rules.

Dumb massers will conquer the whole damn roads while smart massers will stop at traffic lights and obey. A smart group of massers will be lead by one or two other massers, who will stop the traffice momentarily for the whole group to go. This is to avoid accidents. Mind you if a dumb masser trying to be cocky and block the whole lane for his own bike "ego" then it might lead to a very sad accident.

Dumb masser = smart ass = dumb masser.

For me, it's up to the bike culture in a country. Please don't compare us Malaysians with the culture in New York or San Francisco. And you know what, in Budapest, 70 000 massers wear helmets. If it's to me, I would rather put my helmet on. I'm scared shitless. Me, safety first.
I don't care I don't break any rules. I take risk but I would do it carefully.

To you a Critical Mass is about the awareness. Awareness of what?

To me and to those who ride along with me, is to have fun and make people enjoy cycling. To laugh, to know more about our friends and to make new friends. People have come from Mantin, Gombak, Subang, etc. all the way, just for the sake of a plain cycling fun. I'm doing this for the awareness of cycling is good. And it will do us good. :) Now that's my advocacy, fight for the right that cycling is great. How many times you tell your colleagues to go cycling with you and they said "Apa kelas naik basikal?"

So please don't judge Putrajaya Critical Mass or the riders who ride in the mass.
They're a cool, great bunch.
They ride MTBs, roads, tandems, and trikes.
People from college students till orang dah beranak pinak, siap ajak anak beranak kayuh joined the Putrajaya Critical Mass.
Newly weds also came.
If that is not cool enough for you, judge me.
See, if I give a damn. :)
