How much could you save?

How much could you save when you ride to office?
Let say you ride on every friday and your car petrol is RM10. How about parking charges..Let say RM10. Toll maybe RM2. So the total cost would be:
Petrol RM10 + Parking RM10 + Toll RM2=RM22 per week. Let say you cycle for 50weeks...that would be RM1,100 per annum. How about when you cycle twice a week? That would be RM2,200. That could easily get you another new bike every year! Your bicycle maintenance cost won't be that much since you are just using it for road riding.

How much would the government save on petrol subsidy? Let say 30sen per litre. So for RM10 petrol consumption per person that would be = 5.56 litre per person (RM10/1.80 per litre). So subsidy save per person would be RM1.67. Let say 10,000 people in Malaysia ride to work once a week...that would be RM16,680 (10,000 x RM1.67). So per annum the government would save based on 50week people cycle to work would be RM834,000. How about 100,000 people cycle to work just for once a week? That would be RM8.34 million!

How about the stress caused by the traffic jams? How about better health? How about the environment?

Points to ponder for the begining new year 2009. Hey think no more...Let's just do it! Then we celebrate once a month with PCM. Btw, If the expatriates can do it, why can't we:-)

Subject: Dataran Putrajaya

Y.Bhg. Tan Sri,
Assalamualikum.

Mungkin masa pelajaran 'Tatarakyat'
dia ponteng kelas ataupun tidur dekat belakang kelas.

Berbalik kepada cerita pengawal keselamatan, saya terpegun melihat
kelibat pengawal-pengawal keselamatan bertungkus-lumus menjalankan
mencemarkan imej Masjid Putra. Sungguh tegas dan berdisplin. Tapi
topi keledar. Well mungkin mereka berada 'di atas' undang-undang kot,

jam berdetik 12 tengah malam, tiba-tiba ada wisel ditiup belakang
kita.

When I was 19, Jln Genting Klang near the police station was doing some flyover works which took months!! Malaysia Boleh!! It took me 3 hours or more to get from Setapak to Jalan Raja Laut. Kill myself with the stupid jam.. It was 1995, so I decided to buy a mountainbike which cost me RM400plus..My gaji as clerk 660.25 after EPF with sometime some overtime not even 1K. So did I save much.. yea..time baby time!! I woke up at 7 something instead of 6:30..and ride past those pathetic bus commuter..my evil smile..aahaha..reach office in less than half an hour.Locked my bike at 11th floor, Menara UOB, emergency staircase..then one day CEO saw and asked the guard to ask me to put at the lower level with the motorbike :p..I shower then tapau nasi lemak.. and its only 8:15am.. It was so fresh working..no stress. I safe time and gain wonderful memories.. I gain some thigh muscle , confidence and doing something out of the box which I feel happy and felt so sorry for those that got stuck in jam..

Btw, where is your area?

T.K.Boon

Very inspiring story:-) At one time I reached faster than my friend who took the LRT! And I can beat anyone who is taking the bus from Subang Jaya to KL (to n fro). I am riding at 20km/hr only ok. I know that coz I took the public transport for that particular route for 1 1/2 years.

I used to work in down town KL and like most people I drove into town day in and day out for years. Then after contributing to the traffic congestion for 13 years, I decided to park my car at Padang Merbuk (which was free-don't know if it still is now) and rode into the city. I used an old beater bike which is nothing to look at and which I had no worry of parking anywhere. It was great! I got in early, and in the evenings I cleared all traffic with ease-although I still had to join the jams after Padang Merbuk but at least they were not so bad as Jalan Sultan Ismail, Raja Chulan, Jalan TAR etc. I did that for one year before I found a job in Sepang. I admit, I didn't ride from home, I didn't require shower facilities, I rode in work clothes so I wan't an ultra commuter, just a soft commuter. But at least it was one less car in downtown KL. What I loved most was being able to escape the worst of the jams during Ramadan when everyone wanted to leave at 6pm. If I work in KL again, I'd get a Dahon foldable and commute by the LRT ride to and from the station. Where I work now is 65km from home but there is no traffic congestion. I car pool with 3 of my friends so my carbon footprint is hopefully quite small.

Di cadangkan duit yang kita jimat dr petrol, parking, tol dan mungkin jugak bayaran gym tu, kita simpan dalam tabung setiap kali kita kayuh gi kerja (bagus tabung buluh supaya tak leh korek). Akhir tahun baru kasi pecah tabung:-)
